Modelling of dose distributions
Application-specific modelling of dose distributions
We provide dose distribution modelling as a technical support tool for both radiation sterilization of medical devices and irradiation testing of components for space and other high-reliability applications. Modelling is used to complement experimental dosimetry, improve understanding of dose delivery in complex geometries, and support robust interpretation of measurement results.
Medical Device Sterilization
For medical device sterilization, dose distribution modelling is applied to analyze irradiation geometries, product configurations and material compositions. The modelling supports IQ, OQ and PQ dose mapping by assisting in the identification of minimum and maximum dose locations, interpretation of measured dose maps, and optimization of product orientation and process parameters. Modelling is used in conjunction with high-resolution experimental dose mapping, in particular Risø B3 film measurements, to provide a technically consistent and defensible basis for validation in accordance with ISO 11137.
Space Electronics and High-Reliability Components
For space electronics and other high-reliability components, dose distribution modelling is focused on test design, dose calculation and result interpretation for Total Ionizing Dose (TID) irradiation. Modelling is used to calculate the dose to silicon based on measured air-kerma and detailed representations of the device geometry, and to support the selection and placement of components in the irradiation field. Where required, modelling results can be validated experimentally using dedicated detector arrays and supplementary imaging, ensuring that irradiation conditions are well defined and representative of the intended space environment.
By combining application-specific modelling approaches with traceable irradiations and dosimetric measurements, we provide technically robust and audit-ready support for both medical device sterilization validation and space irradiation test programs.
